Fiber origin
Fiber origin
I dye various yarn bases, most of which are from abroad, and some from Finland. I dye the yarns in small batches at our home in Vesilahti. I hand-wash, dye, skein, and perform other finishing touches on the yarns. I order yarn bases from abroad from a reputable spinning mill in the UK, which works with suppliers to ensure that the fibers are sourced from the best possible places where animals and workers are treated well.
Here is a list of fiber origins:
Alpaca comes from the Peruvian Andes. The wool is sourced from small farmers whose way of life ensures their animals / alpacas live a natural life.
Mohair originates from South America, meeting the RMS certification.
Nylon is manufactured in Germany.
Silk comes from China.
Superwash merino wool is mulesing-free and comes from South America, and is superwash-treated in Europe according to the highest Oeko-Tex standard.
